The ART

‘I am a painter who is interested in interpreting the story of a landscape through expressive colour, energetic lines and selected poetry. I work in mixed mediums of inks, acrylics, and pastels on canvas or board.’

Donna Louise Irvine, Artist, and co-owner of ‘The Clearing’.

The Hidden Gallery

The Idea

I’ve always enjoyed the thrill of seeing my paintings in a gallery or to have my artwork chosen to form part of someone’s home. So to have a space which combines both the feel of a domestic setting with the principles of a more formal gallery space is exhilarating. I love the idea that our guests could enjoy their holiday, see the sights, and then return to a home where the paintings are placed with the same care and attention that is usually attributed to an exhibition.

I like to think of it as a private viewing that you live with for the duration of your stay!

The Workings

Each painting will be specially made for a space within ‘The Clearing’ to compliment and create dialogues with other paintings within that space.

All the paintings will have their own story and be part of a collective story that you can read about in the Exhibition Notes that will be displayed within the house.

Paintings made for ‘The Clearing’ are exclusive in the true sense of the word. You will only be able to see paintings made for ‘The Clearing’ in real life. They will not be shared on here or on social media. If you’d like to see them then you have to visit in person whether that is by booking in as a guest or by contacting us (link to contact us page) to book an appointment to view. Please note no viewings will be accepted while there are guests staying in ‘The Clearing’.

Guests of ‘The Clearing’ have first choice to buy any of the pieces on display with full descriptions of each work and prices included in the Exhibition Notes.

The paintings will be replaced with new original work if they are sold.

As a guest of ‘The Clearing’ please feel free to leave comments that respond to the work in the guest book.

The last word…

I particularly love the idea that new work could be influenced by the house and by the reaction and imagination of the guests. How might that inform what I choose to paint next?
